This Privacy Policy explains how GreekMate (“GreekMate”, “we”, “us” or “our”) handles personal information when you use the GreekMate mobile app, visit greekmate.app or contact support.
When you create an account, we handle your name, email address, account identifier and authentication information. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; GreekMate does not receive or store your plain-text password.
We handle the choices and activity needed to personalise and preserve your learning, including your learning goal, current level, daily practice target, lesson and quiz progress, review history, saved phrases, achievements, XP, streaks, practice activity and course results.
If you join the launch list, we receive the first name, last name and email address you submit so we can record your interest and send the promised launch update.
Some settings and learning data are cached on your device so the app can load reliably and preserve progress between sessions. Signed-in learning data may also be synchronised to Firebase.
If you contact us, we receive the information you include in your message, such as your email address and details of the issue.
Speaking exercises request microphone and speech-recognition permission only when needed. The app uses the device’s speech-recognition service to turn your spoken Greek into text so you can see what was heard and retry.
GreekMate’s current implementation does not intentionally save audio recordings to your GreekMate account or Firebase. Speech recognition may be processed by Apple, Google or another recognition service supplied by your device, subject to that provider’s terms and privacy practices.
GreekMate uses Google Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, to operate accounts and synchronise learning information. Firebase processes data on our behalf under Google’s applicable terms.
The website is hosted using Firebase Hosting. Like most hosting services, it may process limited technical request information such as IP address, browser or device information, requested pages and timestamps to deliver and protect the site.
We use Cloudflare Turnstile on the launch-list form to distinguish legitimate visitors from automated abuse. Cloudflare may process limited browser, device, network and challenge information for this security purpose. We use Resend to deliver launch-list and account-related transactional email.
The current app code does not include a third-party advertising SDK or production analytics/crash-reporting SDK. Development-only diagnostic messages are written locally for troubleshooting and are not intentionally uploaded by GreekMate.
Where UK or European data-protection law applies, we rely on the performance of our contract with you to provide GreekMate, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where the law requires it, such as device permissions you choose to grant.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers needed to operate GreekMate, when you direct us to, to protect rights and safety, or when required by law. Service providers may process information in countries outside your own, subject to appropriate safeguards where required.
We keep account and learning information for as long as your account is active or as reasonably needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, comply with law and protect the service. Device-cached information may remain until you sign out, clear app data or remove the app. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
You can decline microphone or speech-recognition permission and continue using features that do not require it. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to certain processing, or receive a copy of your information.
To make a privacy request or ask about deleting your account and associated cloud data, contact support@greekmate.app. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
GreekMate is not directed to children under 13, or any higher minimum age required in a user’s country, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.
We may update this policy as GreekMate develops. We will update the date above and provide any additional notice required by law when changes are significant.
Questions or requests can be sent to support@greekmate.app.
